Our seniors have indeed earned the right to Medicare coverage through a lifetime of hard work. This sector of medical care is already a controlled and subsidized program, and anyone enrolled in Medicare is not considered to be among the “uninsured.” Therefore, there is no need for seniors to enroll in the Health Insurance Marketplace or seek other forms of coverage.
So how do the new health care laws affect Medicare? Under the ACA, Medicare guaranteed benefits are protected. However, there have been some key improvements that will make the program stronger, including:
- A wide range of preventative services and health screenings, with no co-pay or deductible
- An annual wellness visit
- An increase in discounts on brand-name and generic drugs
We don’t yet know the long-term effects the ACA will have on the quality of care that will be received, but for the foreseeable future, Medicare costs should remain steady and continue to provide affordable coverage for our retired citizens.
